Week 2 Story: The Jungle Chaos

Once there was a rabbit. Recently, he picked up a new hobby, stargazing. Someone had told him that these stars are actually huge balls for fire but looked so tiny because of how far they far. One day, while he was stargazing, a random thought popped into his head- what would happen if the star collapsed into our planet. Just then, he saw a shooting star. The rabbit was terrified. The earth was going to end, and he had to warn people about it! He quickly grabbed his iPhone and tweeted, "THE WORLD IS GOING TO END SOON! SAY YOUR GOODBYES!"
He didn't know that his tweet would go viral. A lot of animals retweeted it. A LOT! Soon, Twitter was filled with assumptions on how the world is going to end. Soon there was a random date that started circulating on Twitter. December 21. It was when the world was going to end.
The scientists at JASA (Jungle Aeronautics and Space Administration) were so confused. The news of the world ending reached the lion head of JASA. The lion was furious. Why would someone start this stupid rumor and create such chaos?
The lion started investigating and started asking people about the tweet that started it. It was tough to find out about the animal that tweeted it. He reached to elephants. The elephants told him that the deers told them about this. A big Twitter page was reporting the news and retweeting the rumors about the world ending. The lion then reached to the Boss Deer, managing the page, only to be told that she heard it from rabbits. After a lot of investigation, the lion finally reached the rabbit who originally tweeted about the rumor. The rabbit told him that it was true. That the world was ending. Then, the rabbit told him what he saw. The lion laughed. He took this rabbit to the headquarters at JASA and explained to him that what he saw was a meteor. He also gave him a book to read more about the stars!
He then released a statement that the world was not ending. Some animals believed it; some, however, did not. Soon it was December 21 and the world did not end. Later, many movies and mems were made on this incident, and this whole scenario became a joke in the animal society.

Authors Note: My story was inspired by- The foolish, timid rabbit. When I read that story, I immediately connected it to how fake news spreads. Another thing that came into my mind was how everyone believed that the world would end on December 21, 2012. This is how I created this story.

  1. Hi! I really enjoyed reading your story! I found it so interesting how you made this story modern! When I first started reading, I thought that it was just going to be virtually the same as the original, but as soon as you said iPhone and said his tweet went viral, laughed out loud. The modern twist on this story mad it much more interesting to read and also made it seem comical. I was very impressed with your creativity when reading this story. I wonder if there is a way for you to set up more of a backstory? I know for our projects that we have to make our stories longer, so maybe there would be a good way for you to introduce the rabbit. What if you talked about how old he is, which may give reason to why he is so foolish and does not know what a meteor looks like. I think you did a really good job on this and have some good options for lengthening it!

  2. Hey Rishikaa! This is such a fitting time to write a story focused on social media news (and fake news). There are so many stories circulating about COVID and the vaccines, and if people do not investigate each story to find more credible sources, many become victims to fake news. I also remember the hype around 2012, but it was just kind of funny to me rather than scary. Cool way to merge the original with the technology of today!

  3. Hi! First I would like to say that I love the layout of your website. It is super aesthetically pleasing. I enjoy how it is organized as well. Your story is great! I like how you put a modern twist on this story. I also read the story you based yours off of. I like how you related it to fake news and the "world is ending " event that took place in 2012.
